Job Purpose 

Tetra Consulting have a vacancy for an Authorising Engineer (medical gases), the role is provide competent technical and governance support to organisations that appoint Tetra Consulting to the role of Authorising Engineer (medical gases) and assist those organisations with the provision of safe medical gas systems and safe work practices, through the delivery of competent advice and other key services within the scope of the role.

Role objective

  • To provide competent technical and governance support to organisations that appoint Tetra Consulting to the role of Authorising Engineer (medical gases)
  • To assist organisations with the provision of safe medical gas systems to those affected by the organisations undertaking, through the delivery of competent advice and other key services within the scope of the role.
  • To support Tetra consulting with other consultative services such as water safety.

Qualifications & Experience

  • An extensive level of experience is required, within critical healthcare environments.
  • NEBOSH/IOSH (or equivalent) health and safety management qualification.
  • Suitable experience across multiple medical gas system types.
  • Approved Authorised Person qualification e.g. City and Guilds
  • Approved Authorising Engineer course e.g. City and Guilds
  • An excellent working knowledge of the Health And Safety at Work Act, COSHH Regulations, ACoP L8, HSG 274, relevant HTM(s) & other Guidance Documents or adopted industry best practice including British standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Be fluent in both verbal and written English

Key Responsibilities

The exact responsibilities will differ depending on the agreed scope of services with each client and may include but is not limited to the following:

  • Assess the experience, training and competence of Authorised Persons and provide recommendations for appointment as required.
  • Carry out auditing activities as required by the agreed scope of services using Tetra’s auditing format.
  • Provide technical and engineering support and coaching as necessary to assist organisations with their legal compliance requirements and to champion best practice.
  • Design, deliver and recommend suitable levels of training.
  • Support the business development and tender bid departments through provision of data / information, site information gathering visits, and mobilisation support.
  • Conduct investigations as required ensuring organisations learn from the event therefore minimising the risk of any similar accidents and incidents occurring in the future.
  • Review data and information to prepare technical and performance reports as required. Ensure these are delivered on time and in the correct format.
  • Collaborate with others from across the company and externally as required; clients, supply chain partners (contractors, designers) and enforcement agencies, certification, industry and professional organisations where required.
  • Establish and maintain good relationships with clients, service partners and internal operational teams.
  • Maintain skills, and knowledge including changes to legislation, industry requirements and best practice through membership of an appropriate professional body and continuous professional development.
  • To undertake other duties appropriate to the level and character of work as may reasonably be required within the role of the Authorising Engineer.
  • To fulfil Health & Safety responsibilities by adherence to the requirements of the Company's Policies and Procedures
  • Provide competent advice to organisations through telephone, Email or meetings as necessary.
  • Assist clients with competent advice on medical gas related capital project works and refurbishments with the aim of protecting water quality and ensuring systems are safe to use.
  • Attend appropriate safety groups as required.
  • Provide other bespoke consultancy services to clients as required.
  • Assist with and engage in wider internal team meetings and processes in collaboration with the Senior AE as required.

Attributes

  • Professional qualifications or recognised membership including but not limited to: MIET, EngTech, MWMSoc, I.Eng or ACIBSE
  • Good interpersonal and customer/client relationship skills
  • Be self-sufficient and well organised to be able to manage own workload and client expectations.
  • Management experience of working in a critical engineering environment.
  • The successful candidate will be flexible and will have an excellent work ethic.
  • Must have a keen understanding of the risk assessment concept and how to apply it to medical gas systems and management.
  • Have the ability to work on their own initiative as well as part of a team.
  • Willing to travel and do overnight stays.
  • Willing to travel abroad.

Desirable but not essential

  • Authorised / Responsible Person experience in other disciplines.
  • Comfortable presenting to a group
