Energy Management
The government has introduced the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and meet climate change targets.
In England and Wales, Landlords and property owners must provide an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) to any prospective buyer or tenant when they construct, sell or lease a commercial building. In addition, public authorities and institutions occupying buildings with useable floor area over 1,000m2 must present a Display Energy Certificate.
All commercial premises where a company has operational control of air conditioning systems with a cumulative effective rated output of greater than 250kw will require an energy assessment report for the system by 4th January 2009.
In 2011, this will include air conditioning systems with a cumulative effective rated output of greater than 12kw.
Organisations are recognising that effective energy management provides significant benefits to any company by reducing waste, cutting costs and improving profits, as well as helping the environment.
The Government’s support programmes on energy efficiency and carbon management have proved that most companies can reduce their energy costs by at least 10% through the implementation of simple housekeeping measures and by as much as 30% through introducing cost-effective measures.
